More SEO Hints

There are a lot of easy things you can do in order to optimize your site to its fullest potential. In this article here I will focus on keywords. The main thing that is needed when it comes to keywords, is to have your keyword show up as much as possible on your page. You will notice a lot of SEO focuses on this.

First thing you want to do is make sure that you have your keyword in the title of your page. This is absolutely important because this is what is seen and shown to everyone who sees your listing in a search engine or directory.

When trying to get people to link to your site, try to have your keywords in the title text. Search engines are now paying more attention to this detail in links.

Your Keyword Meta Tag has a lot less importance now, because many search engines just simply ignore it. So this isn’t really needed, but if you can, you might as well. It might be able to get you a better rank on search engines that do pay attention to it.

When placing your keywords throughout your page, keep the image of an hourglass in your mind. The reason for doing this is that you want to keep the majority of your keyword occurrences in the top and bottom of your page, while still having a few in the middle of your page.

Try to make the first 100 words or so on your page as keyword rich as possible. A common problem with this is that websites usually feature a menu of some sort on the left side of their website. Try to make the 100 words come before the menu if it is on the left side of the page.

Don’t forget to add the keyword into the header of your web page.

RSS feeds will definitely help your website in regards to favor with search engines. When it comes to SEO, pages that are updated more frequently gain more favor with search engines like Google.  Just don’t use Javascript, as Javascript content will not be indexed by search engines.

Pick A Keyword

One of the first things you should do when designing your website is to pick a keyword or phrase. This is the phrase you are going to use to get ranked on a search engine. When you are looking for a keyword, look for one that hasn’t been overkilled yet. After you have selected your keyword, you want it to appear as much as possible on your page. This will show the search engines that your page is revelant to that keyword and in turn, increase your rank.

To check to see how much your keyword or phrase is being used, go to Google and type in your keyword. Switch the settings to see 100 results per page. You can do this by clicking on ‘preferences’ , and then at the bottom of the page you will see a section that says resuls per page. Change this to 100 and then save the preferences. After you have done this, go back to your results and scroll down to the bottom of them. Click to go to page 10 of the results. On page 10 it will say something along the lines of “results 501-553 of about 12,000,323 (of course with different numbers). The only part you need to pay attention to is the “results 501-553″. This tells you how many webpages you have to compete with.

The lower the number is, the better chance you have of getting ranked. Of course, you want to avoid a keyword that doesn’t have very much competition because you may not receive a lot of traffic. Keywords are very important when you are trying to figure out how to get ranked on various search engines.
