Speed Test

One thing you want to make sure of while designing your website is that it loads fast. I hate having to wait around for a slow site to load and I bet you to do. There are many things that you can do to make sure that you have a speedy website and they are all pretty easy to do.

The first thing you want to do is reduce the number of images that you have on your webpage. Try to make sure you stick to having, at most, around 4 images on a single page. The larger the images, the less you should have.

The second thing is the overall size of each webpage. You want to keep try and keep it around 30kb for fastest loading times on slower connections.

The third thing you can do is make sure to avoid having more than 1 html file on a single page! This means no iframes.

The fourth thing you can do is reduce the number of external css files you have. Most websites don’t usllay have a problem with this because they only use one, but if your website is using 3 or more you should probably work on reducing that number.

The fifth thing that you can do is try to keep the amount of overall multimedia to minimum.

These are only a few steps that you can take to have a faster and smoother running website. If you want to test your website for speed you can use the web page analyzer.

SEO Tools

Since you are on this site, it may be safe to assume that you have heard about SEO tools, which are made to help you get your page rank up and optimize your site. One site that I am going to mention that has SEO tools, is Smart Page Rank. I constantly use Smart Page Rank to do things like keep track of my own page rank, check the page rank of another site, or check to see if a domain name is taken. Checking the page rank of another site can be useful in many instances, which I will further discuss in future blog posts.

The point of this post is to tell you to make the most of tools like this. I recently used a tool while I was optimizing another one of my sites. In the end I had a more search engine friendly site and also a faster, cleaner site. All these attributes CAN AND WILL affect your page rank.
